Rapid Sample Homogenization
Thank you for agreeing to participate in our product development process!

This survey is for anyone who purifies genomic DNA, total RNA or proteins directly from cells or tissues.

BIO 101® Systems currently offers the FastPrep® Instrument for extremely rapid lysis of virtually any type of sample. As a front-end solution to sample homogenization problems, use of the FastPrep® Instrument saves time and eliminates the frustrations and inconsistencies involved with traditional sample lysis methods such as grinding and sonication.

The FastPrep® Instrument has been extremely popular, and many of our customers have asked for a model with more features. The current instrument allows homogenization of twelve 2 ml samples at once.

III. Samples and Sample Lysis Technique
Using the examples below, please let us know what your samples are and how you lyse them:
Please be as specific as possible. (For example: soybean seed, mouse tail, mature tomato leaf, fossilized avian bone, B. subtilis, etc.)
Sample Description
Lysed By FastPrep?
(Y or N)
Lysed by Other Method
(Please Describe)

(example)
S. cerevisiae cell pellet
N

What sample weight range do you work with most frequently? Less than 10 mg 10-50 mg 50-500 mg Other:

In what volume do you lyse most frequently? (Check one) 96-well plate(s) Less than 2 ml 2-5 ml 5-50 ml more than 50ml

In what other volumes do you lyse? (Check as many as necessary) 96-well plate(s) Less than 2 ml 2-5 ml 5-50 ml more than 50ml
If you lyse in these volumes due to the restrictions of currently available kits or instruments, what would be your ideal sample lysis volume?

If you lyse in 2 ml tubes, how many tubes would you want to process in one machine cycle?

If you lyse in 96-well plates, how many plates would you want to process at once?
What is the most difficult part about your current DNA, RNA, or protein isolation process?
